Welcome Message from Mayor Jay Dean
Welcome Message from Mayor Jay Dean

Welcome to the City of Longview. As the 45th mayor of Longview, I’m proud to call this great city my home. The City Council and I find it a great privilege to be able to serve as your representative leaders. It is our goal to work together to provide vision and direction for our city. I am very excited about the many initiatives, development projects, and opportunities that are taking shape throughout Longview.
We are blessed to have a diverse economy that has outperformed much of the nation. Longview’s unemployment rate continues to remain low relative to national trends, and we exceed industry trends in the area of job creation. We continue to experience the signs of a community that is both committed to excellence and reaching excellence. I am proud of the quality services offered by our municipal government. From public safety to parks to streets, we are committed to providing citizens with services that represent accountability, teamwork, integrity, and professionalism.
As we look toward the future, please know that it’s my promise as mayor, along with the continued support of our great citizens, to keep our community moving forward. I invite you to get involved and be informed. Explore the city website, know your council members, serve on a board or commission, or participate in a community crime watch. The progress we will continue to see will be the result of the community working together, including the business, nonprofit, and government sectors.
The City of Longview operates with a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, who is elected at large, and six Council Members, one elected from each district. The Council appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, Municipal Judge and City Secretary, who work with direction both from the City Council and City Manager. All other staff members work under the direction of the City Manager.
