Jay Dean Elected Mayor: 2005 To Contact Mayor Dean |
Jay and his wife Jane “Pokie” have been Longview residents since 1981. Originally from Opelousas, LA, he earned a Bachelors Degree from Louisiana State University. As Mayor, Mr. Dean has led initiatives focused on beautification, sports tourism, capital improvement projects, and street improvements. He is active in the community and his church. Jay and his wife have three children: Katie, Natalie and Lauren and three grandchildren, Reed, Carter Cooper, and Landry Kate.
The Mayor presides at council meetings, serves as spokesperson for the community and facilitates communication and understanding between elected and appointed officials. The Mayor also assists the council in setting goals and in advocating policy decisions, and serves as a key representative in intergovernmental relations. Along with the City Council, the Mayor is responsible for soliciting citizen views to form policies and interpret them to the public. The Mayor is elected at large, meaning all Longview citizens have an opportunity to vote for the candidate of choice.
